We’ve helped more than 100 workers!

Since the Center for Workers’ Rights opened in September, we have assisted more than 100 workers with their workplace issues.

A majority of the clients were seen at our Workers’ Rights Clinic in Davis, where we have successfully held 8 sessions. 13 UC Davis law students have conducted intakes with low-wage workers, supervised by 15 volunteer attorneys.

We have obtained Unemployment Insurance Benefits for 3 low-wage workers.  And have maintained our success at rate in  administrative hearings – labor commissioner and unemployment – at 100%.
We have helped workers file labor commissioner claims for a total of more than $200,000 in unpaid wages and penalties

There are many memorable stories among the workers we have assisted.  We spoke to an undocumented, day labor who was assaulted to the point of hospitalization by the man who hired him to work that day.  We spoke with a worker in a dried fruit processing plant who had been forced to work 7-days a week for the last 5 months. And we spoke to a tea bottler, whose employer terminated him without discussion because they felt that his medical condition was getting in the way of his work.

We are proud to have assisted each of these workers and admire their bravery in seeking legal assistance.  We are glad to be providing such severely needed legal resources to the Sacramento community.
