Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Center for Workers’ Rights has partnered numerous times with La Familia Counseling Center to provide workers with the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding their rights to a safe and healthy work environment. We have attended many of their vaccination clinics where we have been able to talk to workers about what to do if they team time off because of their reaction to a vaccine or if they are exposed or contract Covid-19.
With the most recent spike in Covid-19 infections happening around the Sacramento region, on September 23, 2023, we once again teamed with La Familia for their Health and Safety Fair at their Maple Neighborhood Center. There were activities for kids, food and beverages, music, and a raffle! Events such as these are a great way for the community to come together and receive information about the resources that are available to them while enjoying the good weather on the weekend.
CWR provided information regarding paid sick leave in California and distributed information regarding Paid Family Leave in California, a program administered through the Employment Development Department, which unlike Unemployment Insurance, is available to ALL workers regardless of citizenship status. Many families and expecting families were glad to know that paid family leave was a resource available to them and looked forward to sharing the information with other families.
For the last 50 years, La Familia Counseling Center has provided multicultural counseling, outreach and support services to low income, at-risk youth and families in Sacramento County. La Familia’s services are free to the community and have been an integral part of promoting health and safety in our neighborhoods. We are glad to partner with an organization that has been dedicated to the community for so many years.
In the next few weeks information about the newest Covid-19 booster vaccine will be available. Those who are eligible for the vaccine should visit La Familia’s website here https://lafcc.org/ to get information on where they can receive the vaccine. You can also call the Center’s hotline to speak with us about the health and safety guidelines in the workplace at 916-905-5857.
