CWR Rallies for Paid Family Leave Expansion and Governor Responds

On the last day for the Governor to sign bills into law, the Center for Workers’ Rights joined the California Work & Family Coalition in front of the capitol to urge the Governor to sign SB 951. The bill would increase benefits for low wage families who take time away from work to care for ill family members or to take maternity leave. Currently workers are only eligible for up to 60% of their wages, this bill would increase the threshold to 90% of their wages.

Not long after the rally started, Governor Newsom signed the bill into law! Families who previously could not confidently take the time off to provide care to their family will now be able to do so without forgoing almost half of their wages!

Huge kudos to the advocates that organized the effort, our friends at California Work & Family Coalition and Legal Aid at Work. We could not be more elated for this win for working families!
